Power Quality for Energy Efficiency Retrofits & Renewable Power Seminar –
Power Quality Seminars Approved by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services DSPS Course ID # 23154
“Keeping Your Electricity Clean as You Go Green”
Power Quality for Energy Efficiency Retrofits & Renewable Power Seminar is a two part seminar four hour seminar that combines abbreviated versions of two other 4 hour seminars. The first segment focuses on energy efficiency improvements and their impact on electrical power quality. The second part focuses on the electrical power quality associated with renewable energy power systems. This seminar offers an abbreviated version of both topics, however, two four hour seminars are also available for those who want a more in-depth learning experience. See our seminar schedule.
Energy Efficiency Retrofits & Power Quality:
Energy efficiency is a popular topic for office buildings as well as both commercial and industrial facilities. Due to the major interest in saving energy, electrical professionals are frequently involved in the design, specification and/or installation of equipment that will reduce energy consumption. Typical energy efficiency projects involve the selection of motors or the use of power electronics equipment or devices which are known to cause electrical disturbances such as harmonics and can also be susceptible to power quality disturbances. This course explains the power quality concerns for two of the most popular retrofits (VFDs and LED lamps). The course explains potential problems, methods to recognize problems after installation and provides recommendations to prevent these problems.
Renewable Energy & Power Quality:
Many buildings have a combination of power sources including utility, renewable energy inverters, standby generators and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). This abbreviated seminar compares these power sources from a power quality perspective and offers advice for the proper sizing of these power sources, based upon the intended loads. It demonstrates the various levels of power quality achievable for renewable energy inverters based on various filter schemes and provides instruction about the effect that specific loads can have on renewable power sources.
Upon completion of this course, participants should have a meaningful understanding of the various types of power quality problems that can be anticipated when making typical energy efficiency improvements as well as methods to avoid power quality problems.
Participants will also gain an understanding of the power quality considerations for facilities that utilize renewable power sources.
Relevance:
Electrical professionals such as electricians, inspectors, electrical maintenance personnel and facility engineers will benefit from this course because it explains the impact that popular energy efficiency improvement may have on facility power quality as well as the performance and life expectancy of other electrical electronic equipment. It explains the technical differences between various types of equipment, proactive measures to take and remedies that can be applied.
